There are TWO major assessments connected with this unit.
Assessment 1: Writing and Presenting an Interview Narrative
Assessment 2: Writing an Argumentative Essay
Assessment 1: Writing and Presenting an Interview Narrative
- This assessment focuses on the control of Voice in writing. Students practice a number of skills related to analyzing voice, and also practice basic interviewing skills. We wrap up this section with the composition of an Interview Narrative in which students will interview an adult with post-secondary educational experiences and then turn the notes into a narrative essay.

Assessment 2: Writing an Argumentative Essay
- To continue our theme of coming of age, students watch, analyze, and read a number of resources discussing the value of a college education. We learn to break down an argument, identify various rhetorical appeals, and construct our own argument using multiple sources. Before attacking the actual essay, students prepare for this culminating activity by completing a very structured graphic organizer.
